Miami - Day 3

This morning we went on a 4 hour tour of Miami which took us away from Miami Beach to the downtown, Coconut Grove, Coral Gables and Little Havana districts of Miami.  Firstly we stopped off at the Holocaust memorial which was very interesting (and a bit depressing) - it was erected in 1990 by the Holocaust Memorial Committee as there are a large number of Jewish people in Miami.

We then drove through Coconut Grove where we saw the houses that used to belong to Madonna and Sylvester Stallone, and then on to Coral Cables where all the posh houses are - we decided that this is where we would want to live if we ever moved to Miami!!  We stopped off at the Biltmore Hotel (where the cheapest rooms start at $500 a night!) which opened in 1926 - it is a lovely hotel with lots of character but I wouldn't want to stay there as it was a bit old fashioned for our liking.

We stopped off at Little Havana, where there is a big Cuban community,...which actually makes you feel like you are in Cuba! Peter tried the Cuban coffee which he said was like an espresso with lots of sugar in it (yuk - glad I didn't try it) and we walked through Domino Park where all the locals get together to play dominoes.

We really enjoyed the tour as it showed us a larger area of Miami, and also there was only 6 of us in total on the tour!  What was a bit annoying was the old lady behind us who kept saying WOW to everything ("and here is a brick wall.....WOW").

After lunch we took boat cruise around downtown, Port of Miami, Fisher Island, Miami Beach, and the star islands (where all the celebs live!).

Star Island where all the celebs live!

I would like this one please (as long as they throw in the boat!)
We really enjoyed our time in Miami, although we did find Ocean Drive to be a real party scene which is not us at all! We are looking forward to travelling onwards to Barbados tomorrow.
