We're in Miami - Day 1

Our journey to Miami was OK apart from being searched TWICE at Heathrow (the first time we had to completely empty our hand luggage, the second time they just wanted to look in our bags and then a body search right before we were getting on to the plane), we had the worse landing ever as the wind was buffeting the plane and it felt like we were on a rollercoster, and then Peter's tooth broke (so we are off to the dentist tomorrow to get it fixed!).

Our hotel is very nice, just one block from South Beach and close to lots of bars and restaurants.

Our hotel room - very comfy bed!

Our tiny bathroom
We were so tired last night we ended up in bed by 9pm so ended up waking up at 5am this morning!  We looked out the window to find that it had been raining and it was blowing a gale but that didn't stop us walking along South beach at 7am in the morning - it looked a bit grey but it was already quite warm even at that time (and even though it was windy it was warm wind!)

We walked down the beach to get to breakfast - Peter had an omelette and I had french toast, which is my favourite but even I couldn't eat it all - there was loads of it!

Hmmm french toast.....
After breakfast we went on a walking tour of the Art Deco district in South Beach, which was very interesting although out legs were aching by the end of it.  It rained twice on the walk, but it was short sharp showers and then the sun would come out again and dry us off.

Examples of buildings in the Art Deco district.

In the afternoon we walked along the beach again to South Pointe Park, which is right at the bottom of South Beach and looks over the marina and harbour.  We then went to lunch at Joe's Stone Crab which is a Miami Beach institution which sells Stone Crab Claws from October to May.  We shared a lobster roll and some stone crab claws and it was delicious!

Our lunchat Joe's Stone Crab - YUM!
In the evening we went to Lincoln Road Mall - a pedestrian street with lots of shops and restaurants.  We stopped at one of the restaurants to have some dinner and a few cocktails - even though it was a sunday night the area was really busy and there was a good atmosphere.

Cheers!
