Saturday 14th February: Jaipur

After breakfast this morning, we went to explore the ramparts of the Fort before we left for our long drive to Jaipur. The views over farmland (owned by the fort) were lovely and just shows you how remote we are!

As we were driving out of the village many of the children were on their way to school and were waving and shouting 'bye bye' - it was so sweet - I have never waved to so many strangers than I have in the last few days! Our journey to Jaipur took 4.5 hours and our poor driver had to keep stopping to ask for directions - it was another pretty bumpy journey.

The hotel we are staying at is a heritage hotel, with lots of indian style furnishings. I didn't like the first room they gave us though as it was noisy and you bizarrely couldn't see outside - the windows in the seating area were covered in a white film so natural light came in but you couldn't see out, and the balcony overlooked.....a corridor! So when our rep called we told them (although Peter said I was making a fuss!) and the man on reception came to see us - we had a 'discussion' with him and then he said he would see what he could do, and we didn't see him again! After 30 mins we went to reception and spoke to someone else who was a lot more helpful and showed us a much better room on the top floor!

The 'thrones' in our seating area
Lovely doorway between bedroom & seating area
Communal balcony outside our room.

In the evening we went to the roof top restaurant and had a lovely meal - we shared a mutton biriyani and a chicken korma which tastes different than back home but still very nice.

It's not all for me!

They also had some traditional dancers in the restaurant, with one lady dancing with pots on her head!
