Vietnam: Hanoi - Tuesday 15th April

This morning we caught a taxi over to the other side of Hanoi to the Ho Chi Minh Complex. We first walked over to the Mausoleum which is a huge granite building which holds the embalmed body of Ho Chi Minh - we did think about going in and taking a look but the queues were huge so we decided against it. There was lots of guards around and when I dared to cross the road to get a better view of the Mausoleum one of them blew a whistle at me and shouted at me in vietnamese! Peter yelled for me to get back across the road before I got arrested!

Our next stop was the Presidential Palace - you couldn't miss it as it is bright orange! You weren't allowed inside so we just admired it from the outside. After that we went to the stilt house that Ho Chi Minh was supposed to have lived in - it was surprisingly very basic.

After a morning which was all about Ho Chi Minh we decided it was time for lunch - we stopped off at a little cafe where we sat out the front watching the world go by whilst we ate. It was very interesting but we did get quite a few hawkers try to sell us something - no we don't want to buy your fan, lighter, bracelet or conical hat thank you very much!

Our last stop of the day was the Temple of Literature which is a temple and grounds built in 1070 and was founded in honour of the Chinese philosopher Confucius.

In the evening we decided we wanted some western food as we were all noodled out so we went to a pub for burgers!
