We are off to Costa Rica! Saturday 13 February

Having booked our flights 8 months ago (got a bargain fare in the BA sale!) the day is finally here and we are off to Costa Rica!

We stayed overnight at a hotel at Heathrow as we had to get up in the middle of the night (4am!) for our 6:30am flight - we blearily made our way through check in and security pretty quickly but we had a bit of a shock when I checked the status of our flight to Madrid online - it said that our flight was delayed and the arrival time was after our connecting flight to Costa Rica! I went to speak to the BA help desk who gave me a withering look, checked her computer and said its on time without so much as a smile - I was just happy that we weren't going to miss our connecting flight but I did think RUDE!

Our flight to Madrid eventually left about 30 mins late but we still made our connection on time and the flight to Costa Rica was pretty uneventful although we really felt every minute of the 11 hour flight (there is only so much reading and watching films that you can do!) and I was glad to get off the plane.

Our first hotel, although only 20 mins away from the airport, is located in a rural village set in the foothills of Poas Volcano which is one of the most scenic coffee growing regions in Costa Rica. The land used to be a plantation and, with just 24 brightly coloured villas on the property, each villa has stunning views over San Jose and the Central Valley.

We went for dinner at the hotel this evening - the restaurant is out on the patio with lovely views over San Jose. The food was very nice, but a bit on the pricey side!

Off to dinner just as the sun was setting.

We have been up nearly 24 hours and really started to feel it whilst having dinner so we are glad to be back in our room to have an early night (although not early if you are still on UK time!), going to bed just before 9pm local time!
