Yesterday we flew via Singapore, to Siem Reap in northwest Cambodia. The town is best known for being the gateway to the Angkor ruins, a World Heritage listed complex of more then 400 temples including the magnificent to Angkor Wat as its main focal point.
We arrived at our hotel around 11am today (Sunday) but the room wasn't ready until 2pm so we sat by the pool and relaxed until our room was available. Our room is very stylish and big, with a balcony overlooking the pool.
By the time we got to our room we had been up 24 hours and was really feeling it so after unpacking we had a couple of hours sleep. We somehow managed to lock ourselves out of our bathroom so I had to go and ask at reception for someone to come and open it for us!!
In the evening we went out to dinner at one of the restaurants just down the road from our hotel - when we arrived they had a big sign saying they were full but we tried our luck and they were able to squeeze us in - it was an outdoor restaurant but the temperature was quite nice so we didn't feel too hot! We had a lovely meal - cocktails were only $4 each!
I had chicken Amok - a local dish |
Peter had chicken curry |
It was a very nice evening and it was our first experience of Khmer (Cambodian) food.
