Siem Reap, Cambodia: Wednesday 15th February 2017

We were up bright an early again for a 7am departure as I had arranged for a guide to take us to the lake villages of Kompong Khleang. On the way there we stopped at a local market which was very interesting and I felt that we were a bit of a novelty as everyone kept staring at us!

We then walked through the main part of the village meeting some of the locals - our guide seemed to know everyone and would just walk in to people's houses! People were friendly though and didn't seem to mind - I could tell one family was talking about us to the guide and he later told us that they are fascinated by the few western tourists who visit the village and were asking him if we were married, had kids, what our jobs were and how pale our skin was!

The children were all very sweet and would shout bye bye and wave at us - our guide told us that they think saying bye bye means hello - it was very funny.

We then went on a boat ride past the stilted houses until we got to the lake where we met some fisherman who were selling their catch to the 'middle men' who would then sell the fish on.

When we arrived back at the village we then had lunch at one of the fishermans homes - bizarrely the man of the house greeted us with 'bonjour' so not to be rude we said it back! We had a very nice meal of snakehead fish, fried fish cakes, rice, veggies and pancake.

After lunch we went to Beng Mealea Temple, also know as the jungle temple, which is still in its natural state which means LOTS of piles of rocks that you need to climb over to get round the temple. As most of you know I am not the 'climbing over rocks' kind of girl but it was ok apart from the time we were climbing through a small area and I somehow got my bag wedged between me and a rock and I had to pull myself back in and unwedge my bag so that I could get through. Peter said he thought it was hard and didn't know how I was going to cope but I was fine (he was more worried about me than I was!).

By the time we got back we had been out nearly 12 hours, and it was very hot and humid at Beng Mealea, so were glad to get back in to our air conditioned room! It was a very enjoyable but tiring day!
